Judging Process

For the five main award Categories (Competition, Reality, Non-Fiction, Lifestyle, Digital & Branded Content), realscreen will assemble a first-round panel of programming executives, distributors and respected non-fiction and unscripted producers. The judges will either be currently working in the category they’re judging or will have significant past work experience in that field. Judges will assess all of the entries we receive for the awards in their respective category on a scorecard against a provided set of criteria that covers each of the creative components covered by the Realscreen Awards competition. Based on cumulative scores, the top-scoring programs in each category will make it onto a shortlist and continue onto Round Two.

For Round Two, a second panel of Category judges comprised of senior-level programming executives, distributors and producers not affiliated with any of the programs up for awards will assess each of the shortlisted entries in their respective categories using the same scorecard and criteria. The results from Rounds One and Two will determine a winner in each of the categories.

Each year, realscreen bestows special honors and recognition to the overall highest scored programs throughout the competition. This year we will be honoring the very best from each of the five main categories and introducing an award recognizing new original formats:

Each year, special awards are presented to industry trailblazers who have made their mark on the factual entertainment and non-fiction content landscape.
